FAQ

Your questions answered
How is Life Coaching different from Counseling or Therapy?

Although life coaching and counseling may have similarities, such as asking the important questions, listening, and finding patterns in people's lives, they are not the same thing.

Counseling is designed to help those with more serious issues lead a more normal, productive life or to get back on track – these types of issues might include anxiety, depression, or OCDs – moving past abuse or going through a personal crisis at home such as an illness or divorce.

Life Coaching is different. It is about helping people get from where they are to where they want to be. For most people that means reaching higher goals and creating greater success, creating more balance and happiness in their lives, and feeling more fulfilled in their lives and in their relationships – it’s about creating what they want.

In many ways counseling is about resolving or managing issues from the past, whereas life coaching is about creating the future and helping clients achieve the ultimate vision they have for their lives.”

My child doesn’t have a problem... is life coaching for him/her?

YES!! Life coaching isn’t just for kids who are facing challenges or problems. Helping kids learn how to reach their fullest potential is about personal development and personal empowerment so that they will be ready to face any challenge that comes their way. The skills they learn can be used for the rest of their lives!

How can I best support my child on this journey?

Simply being supportive and compassionate is a great start. Understand that they may or may not want to talk about their coaching sessions. The best thing you can do is listen when they want you to, and give them space when they need it. I would also suggest taking my Parent Life Coaching sessions!

How do you work with children?

First, I talk to the parents, either through Zoom or on the phone so that I understand the issues that are concerning you and your child. Then, I meet with your child, in person. I let them tell me what concerns they have.

I then develop a program, specific to the needs of your child. I meet on a regular basis with your child, and together we set goals and work on skills to deal with their specific issues. Our time together may include things like meditation, visualization, affirmations, journaling, and drawing. We find what works best for your child.

I believe at the absolute core of helping kids and families is to listen without judgment, bias, or expectations. I allow myself to feel into what is happening for families and then begin the journey of teaching, guiding, challenging, supporting, cheerleading, or whatever else is needed along the way!! Building strong relationships with kids and their parents, so I can be transparent, honest, open, vulnerable, direct, and compassionate allows us to dive deeply into underlying issues holding kids back. These programs are not band-aid fixe

What age range you coach?

I work with kids age 8-12

How long do you work with the clients?

For personal coaching, I would recommend meeting for 45 minutes per week for 8 weeks. Old habits and patterns take time to undo, and learning new ways of doing things need time to become established.

How do I find the time to take my child to see you?

We all have choices. How much time do you spend worrying about your child? How much time do you spend trying to help your child deal with his/her issues? How much sleep do you lose worrying about your child? How much energy does it take? Imagine how much time you could free up if your child was more confident, more independent, more cooperative, and was able to communicate with you in a positive and effective manner. Imagine how much more energy you would have if you no longer had to worry about your child. What could you do with this extra time and energy? Isn’t your child’s emotional health worth the time?

I don’t know if I can afford it?

Once again, it is all about choices. What is it worth to have your child feel confident, happy, and passionate about life? How would it feel if you knew your child had strong friendships, was able to make healthy choices and was able to communicate with you effectively? What if you didn’t have to worry about your child being bullied or feeling depressed? What is it worth to get a good nights sleep because you are able to stop worrying about your child? Often this choice is about priorities. What is most important to you?

I also realize, that sometimes, there just is no possible way to find the extra money. If this is the case, please return to my website often to check out the articles and resources. You can also contact me, and together, we will find a way to help your child.

Isn't this like parenting? (Or a parents job?)

People often confuse parenting and “life coaching for kids”. Life coaching goes beyond the traditional parenting roles of moral and character development and it goes beyond learning how to treat others and learning how to behave.

WISDOM Coaching is all about teaching kids’ empowerment skills and personal development skills, so they can become self-leaders of their own lives. Think of it as leadership training for kids. What we teach most grownups haven’t learned.

The system we use is called the WISDOM System for Coaching Kids. Through the system, kids learn how to use the power of their mind and the power of their thoughts to create happiness, confidence, and success in their lives. And the best part is...they get to learn it through stories.

Our coaches work in partnership with parents – they are part of that parent’s team of trusted advisors to help their children thrive in life.
